Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is an assessment test conducted in Pakistan and internationally each year for those students who want to continue undergraduate medical and dental education in Pakistan. It is an essential requirement for admission to all medical and dental colleges in both the public and private sectors in Pakistan.

MDCAT is conducted yearly by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC. The MDCAT is a standardized test designed to evaluate your grip over basic concepts of Subjects (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English), critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. MDCAT preparative course teaches the mind to make educated selections and to maximize chances of picking correct answers.  PMC (Pakistan Medical Council) is in charge of organizing the MDCAT for all the public sector medical colleges.

The Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is for admissions to Medical Universities. The candidates will appear in a single test only and by gaining the required score they will stand eligible for admission to all MDCAT-associated universities.

 

What is the minimum score for qualifying MDCAT and does that guarantee admission in any university?

 

The minimum qualifying score for MDCAT is 60%, which is 120 marks out of a total of 200.

Every institution has its evaluation criteria for admission and scholarship awards. So passing the MDCAT only does not guarantee admission to any Medical university. Generally, the score in MDCAT is used on a qualified basis, that is, a test taker with a higher score in MDCAT is preferred for admission if other criteria of evaluation are also met. You must prepare for the test for a higher score.

 

What is the validity period of MDCAT?

 

Once the MDCAT test has been passed, the test result will remain valid for 3 years from the test date. The students may use the result for 3 years to apply for admission to any Medical university. In this period of three years, the student may appear in the test again.

 

Can an applicant take the MDCAT more than once?

 

Yes, the candidates who are aiming to improve their previous MDCAT score can also apply for the test again. This ensures an increase in their criteria.

As the MDCAT is held annually, they can apply for the test every year for as long as they want. As the MDCAT result is valid for three years, in this meantime, the applicant can again appear in the test.

 

What is the format of MDCAT?

 

The test format of the MDCAT is based on 200 marks. There are a total of 200 multiple-choice questions. The test format of MDCAT consists of five parts which are as follows.

  1. Biology: This part consists of multiple-choice questions related to biology only. It has 68 questions.
  2. Chemistry: This part consists of 54 multiple-choice questions.
  3. Physics: This part has 54 multiple-choice questions related to physics.
  4. English: In this part, there are 18 MCQs related to verbal English.
  5. Logical reasoning: This part has only 6 logic-based questions.

The time duration for 200 mcqs of MDCAT is 3.5 hours. There is no negative marking on the paper. The minimum passing mark for a medical college is 60% and that for a dental college is 45%.

 

Is there any minimum qualification criterion for taking MDCAT?

 

The eligibility criteria for the registration of MDCAT 2024 is a minimum of 65% in pre-medical FSC with the subjects Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English. Besides this, there is no age limit. Candidates who are waiting for their examination results are also allowed to apply for MDCAT.

The following documents are required to apply for MDCAT:

  • Domicile
  • CNIC or B-form
  • Current Picture of Applicant
  • Matric result card
  • FSC pre-medical result card

How can I register for MDCAT?

The registration process for MDCAT is completely online. The applicants first have to make an account on the official website of PMC. The applicants are required to fill in the information about their educational background and their personal information such as phone no., CNIC, and some other information as well. After providing the basic information the applicants can simply register for the MDCAT.  Print out the fee challan and deposit the required fee in the designated bank mentioned in the form. Scan the paid fee challan and upload it to the application portal. After uploading all the required documents, press the submit button and your application will be submitted and you will receive an email regarding your application status in the next 72 hours. The applicants don’t need to post the application form physically.
